Yellowstone County Relay for Life 2019 | Billings Montana Birth, Newborn & Family Photographer

So, its the night of Relay for Life and I'm signed up to donate my time and talent photographing the event for the last shift of the evening. I'm leaving my house and the rain starts POURING! I drove over to West High School, the Relay location, and spent nearly 20 minutes waiting for the downpour to end. Tons of people had already decided to leave for the night due to weather but I had high hopes that there would still be a good amount of those who chose to endure for the cause - and there sure was! Although the luminaries lining the track and resting on the bleachers, spelling out "HOPE", had been soaked by the downpour- extinguishing the candles and turning the paper bags to mush, the internal flame burned on in the hearts of those still present.

I wish we'd had the magic of all the luminaries glowing in our night-time images, however- Relay volunteers did re-light the "HOPE" luminaries for the closing ceremony. Survivors, family and friends watched the beautiful fireworks display, danced to the music of Arterial Drive and raised money for the cause. Our community raised $598,000 for Relay for Life during this year's event!
